Mr Cat
Hello Mr. Cat,
I know it has been awhile;
I’ve been really busy with schoolwork and such
I promise I’ll come by this weekend-
A bowl of milk for you and a cup of warm coffee for me
We can talk about all of your hopes and dreams-
You hope to catch 3 mice instead of 2 this week.
And I can describe to you my fears.
My fears of the future- a college, a job
My fears of life and death- the unknown
You do not completely understand what I fret about Mr. Cat
But I know you listen;
Your large orange ears twitch to the tune of my fanciful speech,
Your large yellow eyes look at me as if you feel my distress.
I wish I could be like you Mr. Cat-
Not a care in the world
But I understand our destinies thread out in two separate paths-
You are destined to be the simple garden cat that only worries about catching his next meal.
I am destined to be a traveler, a politician, a scientist-
A thing that panics not about food but about a digit on a clock or a price on a machine
We are so different from one another my friend, yet we share this moment in our fates,
And I am grateful for this;
To be able to sit together at a table,
In a moment of our lives,
You lapping your milk and I sipping my coffee
