Mud

Trees looming over me

Wysokie drzewa nadchodzą się nade mną

 They stare

I patrza

Like a predator about to descend on prey

Jak predator przed napadnięcie na zwierzę

 boots squishing in mud

Buty robią odciski w błocie

Not resisting to force of sole

Poddane, nawet nie próbują zatrzymać podeszwę przed sobą

because it doesn’t want to?

Dlatego że nie chce?

Because it can’t?

Dlatego ze nie moze?

foggy air is thick

Mgła w powietrzu jest gęsta

Can be eaten like homemade soup

Tak ze mozna jesc jak domowa zupe

Terrified eyes racing left and right

Przestraszone oczy patrzą w prawa i lewa

sound of  motor

Glos silnike

Seems like a distant memory

Brzmi jak dawna pamięć

But comes closer every second

Ale w każdej sekundzie sie zbliza

Suddenly a truck appears

Raptem można widzieć ciężarówkę

The iron cross boldly showing on door

Żelazny krzyż latwo widac na drzwiach

It stops

Sie zatrzymuje

Two men jump out asking for papers

Dwaj żołnierze wysiadają i pytają się o papiery

I say I lost them

Mowie ze zgubilem

They ask where I’m coming from

Pytaja sie z kont przychodzę

“I come from my brother’s house”

“Wracam od domu brata”

They ask about my buzz cut

Pytają dlaczego mam włosy tak ostrzyżone

“I had lice”

“Miałem wszy”

They ask if I am telling the truth

Pytają się czy mówię prawdę

“Yes, yes”

“Tak, tak”

They leave

Odchodza

Continuing through mud

Dalej ide w te bloto

This morning was Polish

Dzisiaj rano było polskie

Part of homeland

Czesc mojej ojczyzny

Part of Country

Czesc mojego kraju

Now is German

Już jest niemieckie

Now a flag with swastika flies

Juz flaga ze swastika fruwa

Don’t know if I

Nie wiem czy

survive the war

przeżyje wojnę

Live until next year

bede zyl do następnego roku

Make it home

wrócę do domu

I made a cross on my chest

Przeżegnałem się

and keep walking

I dalej ide
