The Mulan Who Didn't Settle

She knew what she was doing.

She didn't need his help.

He owed her his life,

until suddenly she wasn't a man.

He knew he couldn't kill her,

but he still turned her away.

Her "man's" pride was hurt,

and her woman's heart was broken.

He mother had told her she was no one by herself.

Funny, she pretended to be male and saved China.

Who knows what she could have done with a y-chromosome.

Too bad they'll never know because as soon as she could leave,

she went somewhere better-

a "mythical" place where females are not wives unless they wish to give their hand.

Where the well-to-dos who think they know the truth

will never tell her daughter what she can and cannot do.

And the man that she married, the one she really loves,

supports who she is and everything she does.

She learned to never settle, a strangely acquired skill.

No one will ever tell her she is no one again.
