It’s never a good time to
Talk about it.
It’s never a good time to talk about the
Dead, not the
15 at
Columbine, not the
33 at
Virginia Tech, not the
28 at
Sandy Hook, not the
17 at
Douglas, not the
2,094 just since the beginning of
2018, it’s never a good time to talk about it because there are
Always more
Shootings,
Dead kids,
Grieving families, more reasons to be
Sensitive because there are always more people that suffered such a
Loss.
But maybe that’s just it.
Maybe there never
Will be a good time if there is never a
break,
maybe the numbers will
Never go down if we don’t
Talk about it, so
Let’s talk about it.
So far, all I’ve heard is
Screaming about the
Second Amendment, going on and on about these
Liberties, “certain inalienable rights”, these
Firearms that are
Constitutionally protected, they are screaming this at the
Tiny graves at the other end of the
Crosshairs.
But have you, all of you
Indignant, thundering
voices, considered that
Maybe, just
Maybe, my right to
Go to school and come back
Home in a
Bus rather than a
Body bag
Precedes
Your so-called “right” to
Something so lethal it literally has the word
“Assault” in its very
Name?
Have you thought that
Maybe
477 kids fallen at the
Receiving end of a
Barrel,
477 kids in
Less than two months, is
Too many?
Has it crossed your mind that
Maybe
It’s time for a
Change?
Sure, guns don’t
Kill people.
But there is no other weapon so
Easily accessible that can
fell dozens of
Students, of
Teachers, of
Living, breathing
People in a matter of seconds, there is nothing else so
Formidable, and yet
Apparently, an age of 18 and a known
History of
Violence is
All you need.
The United States is not number
One in the world for much. Not for
Education, not for
Industry, not for
Civil rights advancement, no, we are
Number one in the world for
Mass Incarcerations and Shootings.
Our only
Incredibly noticeable attribute is the
Number of people that
Die violently.
Let that sink in.
And try to tell me that
Now
Isn’t a good time to
Talk about it.
