Music

Location

Music.

The sound the word

Produces

Rings

Vibrates

Sings…

Music.

I sit in my car

Radio full blast

Eyes closed

Ears open

Car vivaciously vibrating

To the hum

Beat, beat

My mind wanders--

Last summer-- Springsteen.

Happiness, bliss, sanctity.

For a moment I forget about the rain

The speakers drown

In the flood outside my doors

Willingly

To escape the acrid air

And feel free

Next.

This song outdates my age

My friends scoff at

Sinatra

As I swim in the simplicity

Of the song

Of the lingering and looming

Essence of his time

Imagining

Innocence

Swing dances, curfews,

Black & white, Jive--

Frank,

You save me from my life

Next.
Adele

Whose voice is pure,

Natural, unforgiving

I sing

…I screech…

I feel the undulating waves pulsate

Through my car

Into my body

And out finally

Through my fingertips and throat

The words:

Too large to be contained

The waves:

Pour out of me and onto the paved concrete

Around me-- my car--

The world is put on pause

As I share this split second with

Adele

Her words speak to my soul

And silence the sounds

Screaming to be heard around me

Sitting in my Volkswagen I feel safe.

Springsteen, Adele, Sinatra?

You inspire.

The outside world is made

Not only of the

Stress and anxiety I feel,

But of the good

And of the meaning

Of the chaos and confusion that

Produces the feelings we just connected on--

For a little while,

My mind can escape the escapades of

Conscious thought

And live in

The promise of nothing

And everything

And something bigger than this moment

Music releases us

Sustains us

Uplifts us…

Me.

Music.
