Music in the Child in Me

As I walk along this road, So deep in thought of new and old, What do I almost let pass me by? A little boy of eight who lets out a sigh. I stop and ask "Is everything ok?" He says to me "No." I say "Please explain." So the young boy looks up and clears his throat, And spoke with a voice like the sweetest note. "Inside of me there is a little me, Waiting to come out in symphony. Beneath the surface he calmly lurks, Waiting, Provoking, Inspiring my works. But as you can see I am just one boy. I dont even have the money to buy myself toys. How will I ever afford the schools, That will support, provide the tools? The tools I need to let the little me out, To play the music I see, out loud. To share with the world all my hopes and dreams, Shared with them through simple harmony. My family is poor, we have no home, This cold hard ground is the only bed I've known. So I sigh because I know it's true, That music for me is just a dream or a ruse." I sat there and thought a bit, Then I realized all the truth in it. What have we come to where any child or boy, Is denied the chance to be filled with joy. A chance to prove their musical worth, A chance to bring joy to the rest of this earth. Now even the schools are cutting back more and more, On arts, like music, their closing the doors. So even a young boy with a heart filled with nothing but music, Is denied even a chance to ever use it. But for one of us to stand and to fight, To do what we all know deep down is right. To open a school for the young and the restless, To give them the opportunities that have gone and have left us. We need someone to stand and to fight for the kids, To open a music school for all the underpriviledged. So that children like this boy I have met, Are given the chance to never regret.
