Music is Magic
Music is poetry.
Somtimes it rhymes.
The beat keeps time
To the song that tells a story
Or a feeling or a melody.
Music is interesting.
That's why they play it at parties,
So loud that no one talks;
They shout over the lyrics
That stick with them the next day.
Music is peace.
Putting in headphones drowns out the world.
We can't stay that way forever.
At some point we have to take them out
And face life with the strength music gives us.
Music is knowledge.
Because sometimes I won't listen to words,
The notes carry an extra reminder.
The jingle in commercials, the state capitols in a tune,
The song that says, "You can do this."
At its root, music is magic.
Black dots, circles, lines on a piece of paper
Turn into vibrations, combinations, variations
That travel through the air to ears
Ready to listen, open to thinking,
And somehow those ears capture the sound
And send it to the brain and understand
The words and the stories and the feelings
That come from music.
