Music is a Solace
Voices.
A comfort in an empty space.
A familiarity we all long for in the disturbing silence weare oh so familiar with.
Rhythm.
A fluency our brain waves crave.
A reason to bob our heads and wiggle our toes to a booming beat.
Together, they make music.
Music is a solace—a peculiar one.
We dance to music, we cry to music, we love to music . . .
We rejoice with friends, bond with family, wallow in our own grief.
But, in the dead of night when no one rests by your side
And the wind howls through the branches of the trees
And the shadows dance across the walls
And the tears become invisible beneath a blanket of darkness,
Music is solace.
Without music, I am alone.
I cannot escape the harsh realities of the real world
I cannot escape my fears of perpetual loneliness
I cannot continue the daily facade
I cannot continue to survive.
If I cannot have the company of other human beings,
at least I can feel the warmth of their voices raditating through my headphones.
Music is a solace--
My solace.
