A Musicians Love Story

i hate the way his eyes close

because he gets these little wrinkles by his eyes

i hate the way he always knows what i'm thinking

when i say i don’t care

and he knows i’m lying

but he still nags me for the truth

i hate the way he always played the mind games when we first met

i hate the way i keep using the word hate when i know i could never hate him

waking up to your hazel eyes

and his sleepy smile

with his dimples

so wide  that even the grand canyon would be jealous

i hate when i’m trying to be serious and you make these silly little jokes

and none of them are ever funny

but i can’t help but laugh because of your proud facial expression

like you made Jesus laugh or something

i hate  the way your possessive tendencies come out when i talk to the mailman

when i tell you that you are worse than a dog

then your dimples creep in slowly like a child at christmas eve

and you open your smart mouth and say that's because i'm loyal

but most of all i hate the way we fuss

i still remember that night

you were on the phone

and you said  i love you

you are my princess

yep you are my only princess

you gave her your cute laugh

the one that's reserved only for me

that's when i knew fairytales weren't real

i ran down stairs and said i knew it

you never deserved me

good things don’t come true

that night it felt like i was rolling in the deep

i set fire to rain

i thought you belonged to me

i gave you all of me

i know we are ordinary people and we make mistakes but i couldn’t find it in my heart

to forgive you

so that night

i found myself in marvin's room

and when i pulled my covers up

i heard the phone ring

and it kept ringing and ringing and ringing

and when i finally got the courage to say hello

you cut me off

you wanted to know why i was mad

i am always a hothead so i said ask yo lil princess

the phone went dead

i just knew i won the argument

then i heard a knock on the door

it was yo ass

i hope you didn’t think i was going to let you in

and i didn’t care if it was  raining either

i tried to slam the door but you being a idiot caught the door with your foot

and then side stepped your way in

with a smug smile

you said you know you are sexy when you are jealous

you pulled out a picture of a little girl

on the back it said my little princess

i felt guilty but no way i was going to admit to it

but you being you didn’t pressure me

the rain became loud

but not a loud as the sound of forgiveness that was in the room

so somehow instead of kissing in the rain we found ourselves lying down on the kitchen floor

because kissing in the rain is white people shit

because this is an urban love story

without the cussing drugs guns and cheating

and the shit we do is so dirty that you can’t help but to flush down the toilet

so you won’t  never have to tell nobody

every light was turned off, in every room off off but i kept you on and instead of you  being like a

17 year old boy waiting to get off you just kept looking at me

i tried to look away but i couldn’t ….you just kept looking at me with so much intensity

our heart beats was making its own rhythm

and you start humming i said what are you singing

you said

Out of all of the girls(john legend you and i)

You're my one and only girl

Ain't nobody in the world tonight

All of the stars you make them shine like they were ours

Ain't nobody in the world but you and I

You and I

will always love you

i remember everything about him

even tho i haven’t met him yet
