Todays society says short dresses are sexy
that coving up is ugly
You say I am old fashioned
that I need to act my age-
but what is my age?
How does 21 act?
How does a number act?
Should I wear short dresses?
Should I start clubbing?
and sleeping around?
Or just find a man and sleep with him?
You tell me be myself-
yet when I am myself you say I'm not
that I'm not acting my age
because I wear a longer dress
or skirt
because I am a virgin
and refuse to lose it until I'm wed.
Those are the things that make me
me
I am the person who believes in modest dress
the person who believes in Mass on Sundays
and waiting till marriage
and that marriage is for life 'save special circumstances
-like abuse or adultery-
If that makes me old fashioned then fine
I'd rather be old fashioned and me
than act like someone I'm not
and do things my conscience says is wrong.
Don't tell me to act my age,
you don't know how my 21 acts,
I do.
