My Anger

Have you ever felt

That blinding rage

Bubbling up inside, determined to sway

Your mind and your memories

Over to its side

To gain control

Of this body, this world

So wide

Have you ever felt

That deep-throated thrum

The urge to scream, to punch, to run

The image appears

In perfect resolution

All you have to do is let it happen

Let it happen

And yet every time

You find yourself holding back

Punishing yourself, holding yourself

Fighting against the rage, these images

That feel so right

If only they weren’t simply mirages

Visions

Never to be enacted

After all, I mean

You can’t always listen

Not when it tells you to hurt, maim or kill

You shove it deep inside

Into the flame

For it to surface

Another day

The cycle begins

It never really stopped

The images flood your mind

You have to hold your throat shut

Keep calm, hold on,

Bury down the rage

Leave it to simmer

Leave it to stay

Leave it to surface

Another day
