my aphrodite

i.

a mop of black unkempt hair,

short stature and calloused hands,

impulsive temperament and rough demeanor,

closed off from the world as if someone had locked away my heart and thrown away the key.

then as if cupid had struck my soul with his piercing arrow,

my world changed, with you in view.

you.
with your cascading brown hair,
and eyes that would make the sky feel blue.
you.

harboring a constellation of freckles across your face,

and a smile as radiant as the sun.

you.
with arms that could envelope me in a never ending warmth,

and hands that fit perfectly into mine like a glove.

yet.

you will never hold my hand, but hers.

how i long to be the one standing next to you.

yet how could i, your best friend, your comrade, your most trusted confidant, ever dare to step out of place.
perhaps we are not the lovers, and i am but the hanged man.

but even if the heavens may curse upon my soul for loving the same kind,

i am but a fool with an unrequited love.

and will forever, yearn for you,

my aphrodite.
