My Article
Shimmering lights bounce off tall buildings.
People rushing
Point A point B and back again.
Bright lights rise and fall
but nothing else changes.
These lights burst through my lazily closed curtains.
The daily alarm sounds
blaring horns
crazed shouts.
So my routine ensues,
roll out of bed
coffee
shower
dress
more coffee
Hitting the streets by 7:54.
I pass assortments of people,
fascination glinting in my eye.
Huge red letters read New York Times.
I enter the doors beneath.
Greetings fly
they are returned with matching enthusiasm
A fresh pad of paper
newly sharpened pencils
all wait for me.
Settling into my plush office chair
a shrill ring screams from the corner of my desk.
"Line two for your interview"
I press the blinking button.
One hour
One pad of paper
Two pencils
then i hang up the phone.
I then delve into my mind.
Pulling and plucking and choosing words
for each serves an important role.
The clock reads 11:37
my eyelids close
remembering my path.
I am grateful for boring lectures.
Grateful for saving money.
Grateful for hours of study.
Grateful for failure.
Even more grateful for success.
Grateful for encouragment.
Grateful for everyday of work.
Eyes snap open.
Reorganize my desk.
Title my article.
Then lend a warm smile.
Morning awakes me once again.
Blaring horns.
crazed shouts
A knock stirs me from bed.
I collect the daily New York Times.
The front page could have read:
"Yankees Hit the Homerun"
or "Sunny With a Chance of Clouds"
but it didn't.
Instead was my article.
