To My Bed

Dear Bed,

I thought you were supposed to be a place to rest

A place for recovery and reflection

You’re supposed to be there in my time of need

Reaching out to give me a big hug, engulfing me in your blankets…

So why are you turning your back on me?

Why do you bring me so much fear?

I can’t sleep on you, the basement floor, or the couch downstairs...

Instead of sweet dreams, you give me sweet nightmares

The taste of blood on my tongue is accompanied by

You strangling me with the blankets around my neck

Reminding me of what happened, fearing it may happen again...

So why don't you just go back to helping me heal?

Wouldn’t that be easier for both of us?

Let me know when you want to help instead of hurt...

Sincerely,

A sleep-deprived college student
