My Big Brother

This one’s for you

My big brother.

Out there, like you,

There is no other.

From your birth to mine

Is twenty-one years.

For my first seventeen

You’ve squashed all my fears.

When I was little,

You were my protection.

As I have grown,

You are my connection.

You traveled the miles

To see me compete.

I know this for sure,

You can’t be beat.

When you decided

To move to the beach,

I thought our closeness

Was just beyond reach.

But you proved me wrong

By flying me there.

To spend all my breaks

With us as a pair.

Then you married Emily

And I thought that was over.

But she welcomed me

And I saw why you love her.

Another year passed,

And along came Christopher.

You kept me so close

Just so I wouldn’t suffer.

When it comes to believing

In me, you’re a given.

Without you, I can’t imagine

This life would be worth livin’.

Thank you, thank you

It’s the least I can say.

For all that you do for me

Day after day!

You are my big brother

And my very best friend!

I thank God for you

Every day til the end!
