My Black is Beautiful

they say my color is shameful & a disgrace

but i say my color is enough to a smile on my face

they say my thickness is fatness & that i should loose weight

i say that their offended because i have a shape

yk they even said my nose is too big, my ears are too pointy, my lips are too juicy, my eyes are too wide, & my face is too fat

but i say their mad because i have more to show

see being black is an honor that our fellow races wouldn't understand

open your eyes & realize that were more than just slave workers & handyman's

our roots are far deeper than those of another man

our black our race is more beautiful than others portray

cause see growing up i was always judged because of the texture of my hair, the color of my skin, the tone in my voice, the sparkle in my eyes, & most of all just because i was a little black girl in the north

i bet you cant look at me & tell that im mixed

but see if i let down my hair & let you touch it you would think that your sense of touch is deceiving you

i know yall heard that saying never judge a book by its cover

& see i dont care if you take this to the heart because see whites cant tell me who to be or who i am

hell they cant even tell me that i come from a long line of slaves

see without us blacks yall wouldnt be nothing

because remember when you needed us to cook your food, watch your kids, pick your cotton, & keep your house clean

but you know whats funny is that yall talk about how ugly blacks are but if i remember yall used to have sex with us

blacks are ugly but now yall marring us

i think the big picture is yall let society & your history make who you are

us blacks remember where we came from but we dont let that make us who we are or who were going to be

my black your black our black is beautiful

were more than just a race or a color

the sad part is that whites dont have to kill us anymore because were killing each other

when are we going to open our eyes & realize that nothing has changed

racism, poverty, discrimination, & sexism still exists

dont let this poem fool you into thinking that i dont like being black

i love being african american

why? some might ask; well its because my skin glistens, my eyes sparkles, my teeth shine, my hair is unique, my body curves, my background is unlike any others, & most of all because i have color

black is powerful, black is confident, black is amazingly beautiful, black is courageous, black is unique, black is uplifting, & black is me

theres a 100 shades of black like you & me but little did they know this about us

black yes i said black is the new destiny
