My Black Is Beautiful

From my coily hair to my deep brown eyes My black is beautiful From my sassy urban attitude to the way I sing my blues My black is beautiful From the color of my ancestors skin to this new generations blend My Black is Beautiful While they're saying light skin is the right skin and far skin is less of any skin My Black is Beautiful These categories shouldn't even exist two of us from the same race, but since you're of a lighter complexion you tend to be what society says a young black woman should be Im told with my complexion I'll never be loved leaving me insecure because I dont fit into society making it hard to believe My Black is Beautiful I know for a fact that everything society says about my shade of brown is wrong I may not fit in with society's motto of a young black female but i know for a fact im loved more than the model on the magazine that is shown to have the perfect image of a black female im loved more not because of what society wants me to be but for my imperfections of not being the perfect shade of a young black female that society wants me to be My Black is Beautiful -Shakeena Jackson
