My Body

Dear My body,

It seems as if you don’t like me very much.

I seem to have gotten all of the bad genes,

Spread all thought my family.

First its my eyes.

Sure you may be a pretty Hazel color,

But you really suck at your job:

Seeing.

I’ve had to have glasses since kindergarten or 1st grade,

Complete with a prism and everything,

Which is used if you’re old or have double vision.

I have neither but still need it for some reason.

On to the next issue,

My nose.

No it’s not crooked,

instead it chooses to bleed excessively whenever it pleases,

Up to as long as an hour on most occasions.

Next is my mouth.

My teeth were extremely crooked,

Which were fixed through multiple trips to the dentist,

Having many teeth pulled out is not fun,

I can assure you.

Neither are braces.

And how could forget my Lungs,

Which also suck at their job.

The last time we checked,

A couple years ago,

I learned that they only taking in about 50% of what i breath.

Making it difficult to do what i love;

Singing.

It doesn’t stop me though.

i’ve learned to push through it.

The next, and biggest, issue is my back.

I have Scoliosis,

Which basically means my spine decided it wanted to grow on its own accord and grow crookedly.

The top half of my spine curves left,

Making my right shoulder bone stick out,

and the bottom half curves to the right,

Making my hip bones uneven,

Making it surprisingly difficult to find pants that fit right.

Last but most certainly not least,

Is that i am extremely short.

I am 15,

Almost 16,

And am 4’10.

My entire family is also short,

But they all make it to at least the 5 foot mark.

I do not.

Of course,

None of these things truly bother me

Or effects my mindset,

But I seem to have drawn the short end of the stick,

Literally and figuratively.

As much as i wish i could change things some times,

I know that things are how they are supposed to be.

Everything happens for a reason;

This is just a couple of them,

And i can’t change them,

I can only try my best to embrace them.

Sincerely,

Lexus C.
