My Book

Never have I connected

With anything more

Than an old little book

In a broken-down book store

You taught me so well

I’ve now learnt myself

Only 783,137 words

Could make me so swell

I’ve seen all your powers

I’ve read all your words

Turned my insecurities

Made them flock away like birds

At first, I was hesitant

To dare pick you up

In hopes if I didn’t

I’d have better luck

But I took you and bought you

And I’m glad that I did

How can a book mentor me?

Make me want to live

I flipped through your pages

As they burned through my tips

And the fire of your words

Bled through my lips

I carry you with me

When I am in need

In hopes if I read you

That I will succeed

I worshiped you when I was at my best

And blamed for you for all

When I had no success

And yet here I am

My mentor, a book

That little old me

Didn’t want to take a look

So now that I’ve lost you

And I’ve passed you on

I wish you the best

On somebody else’s arm

You taught me so well

my bible indeed

made me see the light

when I was in need.
