My Canvas
I have my canvas ready.
I have my paints picked out.
I have part of it painted already.
Some of it certain. Some of it in doubt.
The past is set in stone.
It’s completely dry.
What’s done is done.
No matter how hard I try
I can’t change anyone’s actions
Or who I have been.
But I can accept with satisfaction,
That I can add paint to my canvas again.
I have my canvas ready.
I have my paints picked out.
I have part of it painted already.
Some of it certain. Some of it in doubt.
The paint from today
Is still slightly wet.
I have to add more anyway
Because today is not over yet.
I’m not certain how it will end,
But one thing I do know
Is that I will try to spend
It as if it were my time to go.
I have my canvas ready.
I have my paints picked out.
I have part of it painted already.
Some of it certain. Some of it in doubt.
My wonderful canvas. What will I do
With my canvas before it is complete?
I have an idea, but, really, I have no clue.
Certainly, there will be new people to meet
And different places to explore.
I want forensic science to be my career
And to improve my español some more.
I won’t care if wrinkles reflect in the mirror.
Of course I’ll write more poems.
I will serve and follow Jesus.
I will help those without food and homes.
I will always love Reese’s Pieces.
I have my canvas ready.
I have my paints picked out.
I have part of it painted already.
Some of it certain. Some of it in doubt.
