My Captain Jones

My Captain Jones

Oh captain, are we nearly there?
For the days are passing too slowly for me to bear.
I am only fourteen and have never felt so drained.
If this trip is for my freedom, why do I feel so constrained?

Captain, my mother is ill from all the stomach-churning waves.
My whole family is fading away; we all might end up in graves.
The immense amount of passengers is causing this ship to overflow,
I miss running through open fields and playing in the winter snow.

My captain, I do not see these new lands yet.
There, will we be less judged for our beliefs and mindset?
I pray that all I have been told is correct,
and that this voyage will end better than I currently expect.
