My Cartoon Vision
I like to imagine that the animals of the side of the road aren’t dead,
They they are similar to a spooked cartoon cat.
Humorous they are,
The silly little things.
When frightened, the cat stiffens, falls over, one eye twitching,
Mr. Racoon is doing that too.
He is a comedian in disguise, a master manipulator.
These are the things I like to imagine,
When times are dark and my mind grows weary.
That the soldiers will all return merry,
And sing show tunes of their journey.
That the stage four cancer patient will make it,
And jump up dancing during their final chemo session.
That the neglected child will grow strong,
And their dreams filled with laughter.
I like to imagine that I can get better,
That one day I will wake up and brushing my teeth will be easy.
Because it is a simple task,
Compared to those dead on the side of the road, haunted with PTSD, dying of disease, and the ones that will never make it past age five.
I try and see life like a cartoon,
Like nothing bad could ever happen.
That one day, we will all awaken to a bad dream,
That everyone will make it.
