My Choice is My Voice
Is it worth my tail?
Being with one I think I love
Placing my name in a fancy font on this scroll
Will allow me to live above
There's a man up on shore
The one I want to know and adore
To walk with upon the sidewalk
To speak to in human talk
My voice, the only thing he knows of me
Walking towards him, a mute girl, who will he see?
Someone he won't learn to accept
Someone he'll soon reject?
I'm a salt water loving mermaid
Who lives under the miraculous sea
And to that title I will be claimed
Not to a boy who can't presently be named
So, I swim as fast as my inherited tail can go
I move as swiftly as the ocean flows
Right into the arms of my loving father
Because without him I cannot be bothered
Being without the prince might crack my heart
It could do worse and tear it apart
But to live distant from my loved ones
Hurts more than any curse or gun
So, I'll go ahead and make my choice
It won't cost much, just my voice
I'm not a poor, unfortunate soul
A prince's wife is not my goal
As time goes by, family will be all that mattered
For without it, my whole world would be shattered
