My City

I'm from a city where gang banging and smoking is more important than getting an education.

A city where theres not much waiting, and so little patience.

In my city, another teenage girl ends up pregnant by the end of the week .

And when they do have that baby, their to occupied with wanting to go out and smoke weed.

Not even realizing the needs of their child

Allowing it to grow up on its own.

Making the same mistakes, and not knowing the differences between right and wrong.

In my city, boys that claim their men are getting their lives together

Instead their sitting on the corner, waiting for a fight to come along, instead of being focused on how to get it together.

Jumping others, smoking weed, parting and drinking

That’s their definition of a good weekend.

In my city, the old can’t trust the young

Without thinking of being robbed, hurt or hit with the butt of a gun.

In my city, tragedy comes in trios

A death, an arrest, or an injury from a loved one

In my city, the word teenager is just a crime waiting to happen

But what they don’t know is that their just kids wanting to grow up too soon.
