To My Dad
What is a dad?
Is it a person? Can it be a thing?
Mine is a friend of the truest kind
One who is honest, and always speaks his mind
Our defender and offender all at the same time,
Encouraging me to think and be, all that God has for me.
A noble man, with aspirations
A funny man, with not a lot of patience, but still he waits. Watching us grow and change, leading by example.
My dad is strong in more ways than one,
He wants us to be that way as his sons.
With troubles in our future I must not sit idly by,
Go out and try, respect, make friends, pray, and live
Are all things he would say.
To be a great man you must learn from great men,
And so dad I wait for your next lesson to teach
So I can learn to reach out and look up for the better day
