My Dance

Dancing in a whir of colors

The stars' light raining down on me

Only they know what's in my heart

Yet others are observing

I don't want them to see

Because they cannot understand.

Soft motions change to sharp ones

My dancing turns to rage

The jovial stars turn away.

They, like myself do not like to see.

The turmoil that's inside of me must not burst out

Not in front of them I say, not in front of them.

For if they see this heart of mine they might just hurt it more

And that is why the stars may see what's inside of me,

For they're the only ones too far to tear it all apart.

The lookers on may think they know all that's inside of me

They cannot know, they will not know

I'm dancing just for me.

My life is not a spectacle for onlookers to see

I dance through life and sway in time

A tune that only I may know is skipping through my head

It sings of hope and love and dreams that others think are dead.

The stars are enough company for me to just be me.

Again I'm swirling through a whir of colors

Star light raining down on me

Only they know what's in my heart,

But that's good enough for me.

I dance not for the people,

Nor for the stars above

For my life is not a spectacle,

But just for me to be.

I wrote this poem right after my grandma died as a way to voice my regrets. She was a fantastic person an inspiration to me. I love her more than words can say.
