My Dear Son

The days are long, but life is so short.

I might be wrong; feel free to retort.

Some treat it as a type of sport,

Wisely choose with whom you consort.

Which will you be, my little honey bee,

As strong as the mighty oak tree

Or easy like the summer breeze?

Both, my dear, deserve reciprocity.

Keep this in mind as you tread your own path:

Once you’re first, and then you’re last.

No man controls the role he is cast,

He only drives from whence is passed.

Learn from it all, the good and the not

Because we are comprised of what we’re taught.

Attempt the impossible, do as you ought

Because action takes precedence over mere thought.

Know who you are, and hold fast to it

I won’t always be here to help you through it.

Be sure to keep the flame in your soul lit,

And remember this above all:

Never Quit.
