To my dearest 5..

Third year of high school and my life greatly changed

my heavy thoughts conquering my distraught brain

my body fell victim to the crazy unknown

hungry and weak and the silence of being alone

anxiety taking over all that I had become

something I believed I could never overcome

a bite of saltine cracker here and there

5 pounds doubled, I see myself spare

What was wrong with me, I knew not

tears rush down my cheeks, with a tissue I blot

For my life was wonderful and not one thing stood out

that could've triggered this feeling that had come about

I began to lose hope in myself altogether

when you stepped up to help make my life better

With the feeling of never being enough

there were five that were there to call my bluff

they could see I was scared, broken, and flawed,

my family of 4 and my forgiving God.

It was with you, my sweet 5 that I challenged this thought

I was able to conquer what I thought I could not.

for without the support that I was able to receive

Living would be something I could never fully achieve

now I am happy, confident, and proud

and I owe it all to this small crowd

I realize you are just a number for many

but to me you are five lucky pennies

I give you a thank you for all that you do

you have given me the greatest gift of starting anew
