My Demons Became Power
Cyan colored paint
Floods my walls,
Frosts my carpet,
Drowns my innocence.
Applied by a drunk man
I used to call dad.
Enclosing a family
He can barely call his.
Next to Mickey
I cried
As the Happiest Place on Earth
Became Hell.
On my chalk-infested sidewalk
I observed
As my home
Became a battleground.
Beside a million empty bottles
I lamented
As my basement
Became a pub.
Surrounded by hopelessness
I fought
As my demons
Became my power.
Mickey was misery.
Home was war.
Peace was sorrow.
Pain was strength.
Through my father
I grew
As my innocence
Became wisdom.
