To My Depression
As I tried to swim, you held me down underneath the water for me to drown;
as I tried to bloom, you plucked my petals and left me to wilt.
You defined my life and became the reality I that I lived with each day.
You took away my happiness and caused people in my life to leave me.
You spent every second making me believe that I am not enough for anyone;
however, much like everyone else in this world, I learned.
I learned that I am capable of doing many amazing things with my life.
I learned that I am beautiful and worthy of everything that is good.
I learned that I do not have to be controlled by your evil grasp.
You may have grabbed me by the throat to choke me in hopes that I gave in, but I always found way to slip out.
So, to my depression, I thank you.
Without you, I would not know what it is like to feel defeated, yet rise up once again.
