My Devotion to Anger
My Devotion to Anger Poem
Hannah Bubar
One second is all that it takes for you to come;
Yet you can stay for minutes, hours, days, weeks, and years.
When you’re around, my leg shakes and I bite the inside of my cheek,
Causing bleeding blisters in my mouth, and in my relationships.
You have protected me when Sad wanted to play,
Yet you leave me tainted when you come and go.
You build up like ear wax,
I try to clean you out, but you always clog my thoughts.
You are ugly, vicious, but also beautiful.
You’re beautiful because you also somehow bring peace.
You’re the cause for movements and marches.
The cause of unity,
But you also tear people apart like the shark in Jaws.
All I ask of you is to leave me alone in the times that aren’t needed.
Stop trying to ruin my relationships.
I know your best friend is Anxiety,
But sometimes, you need to get the hell out.
I can’t stop being with you.
I will always need you.
I love you, and hate you.
You’re the one that’s kept me aware,
But you’re also the one that surrounds me in dark clouds.
I can never run from you.
You’re always there,
So I guess I just have to own you.
