My goal is to become a pediatrician, and this is a long journey I hope to one day accomplish. It starts with identifying the right college and hopefully getting admitted. One of the most important reasons is by having guidance that will lead me towards a degree earned in an area of interest.

One of the reasons I choose to pursue a career in medicine is for the love of science. I find science as a subject that is intellectually stimulating; a patient can also be intellectually stimulating when trying to figure out a medical diagnosis, considering possible avenues of treatment, various risk factors, etc. In the past ten years, I have been fortunate to travel abroad, I have met people, more specifically, in the third world countries that truly suffer. These are communities with broken healthcare institutions due to dysfunctional governments. I have witnessed children and adults suffering, many lacking essential healthcare services. It breaks my heart but also energizes me to never give up pursuing my career. When the times comes, and my school days are behind me, I shall be able to do what I love, helping those who are unable to access services from people of my expertise.

I would be untruthful if I failed to mention the financial security that comes with this career. As a doctor, for the most part, you have job security. There is a certain level of stamina and leadership that comes with it. But of more importance is the financial satisfaction. Coming from a poor immigrant family and growing up on the lower side of the chain has not bee fun. Attaining my degree will not only give me financial comfort that I’ve never had to be able to support my family and those who are less fortunate.
