My Escape
There are these things
I cannot live without.
These would be my books
Without a doubt.
I don’t need sleep
Nor shelter nor food
If there is a story,
An escape to go to.
There, I have friends.
There is heartbreak and drama.
There’s adventure and love
And a world full of trauma.
There are words that are said
That go straight to my heart,
And, as long as I feel that,
I don’t need a part
In this world that I live in,
Which is mundane and boring.
I couldn’t live in a world
Without these beautiful stories.
I’d be trapped in this place
Of responsibility.
A life of bills, taxes, money.
That just isn’t for me.
I like fighting the monsters
That live deep inside
The words
In the pictures
That I see in my mind.
With my books I become
Someone I am not.
I can wield swords and knives.
Fall in love and the lot.
I feel what they feel,
And I see what they see.
These books help me escape
My reality.
