My father

My father told my mother he was afraid of losing me. I didn't know whether to hug him Or laugh. But I did know You can't lose somebody thats already far gone. It was okay. I learned to live without him. As he had learned to live at the bar. He had spent more of his nights there than at home tucking me in and saying, I love you. And he'd miss all of my school dances. So I never heard him tell me how beautiful I looked in a dress. And he drank when I had my first ballet recital And my last And I was still okay
