My Father, My Hero

O Captain, My Captain Scholarship Slam

Everyone has that one person who shaped them into who they have become

A person who has been there through it all and never given up on you

For me, my mentor and hero has always been my dad

He has always known how to turn my day around and make me glad

He taught me how to be strong and kind and generous to all

But also how to pick myself back up when i fall

He taught me my self worth and the value of respect

Along with learning how not to deflect

My emotions on others and be honest and true

To everyone i meet so they will be honest to you

My dad is my mentor forever and always

Because he has been helping me find my way through this crazy life of a maze

There have been times in the past when he and i have fought

But in those fights I learned how not to be bought

With empty apologies to resolve issues short term

But to talk things out like adults and lovingly be firm

He and I have always been honest with each other about everything

And for that i am grateful to have him

I am always by his side and he is always by mine

He inspires me everyday to be better than the day before and be genuine

Without him I would be exponentially different

I would not be as considerate or magnificent

He made me into someone that I am proud to be

And I will always be grateful that he improved the inner me
