My Father's Duplicate

he is not worthy of my pardon

even though he implores it of me every day

never will I make the same mistakes when I am a father, I say

yet as I grow and notice I am struggling to resist behaviors that he once hosted

the ones that broke my young soul

I start to fear that one day I will know what it is like

to beg for the forgiveness of my son.
