My Façade or Hers?

“I hope she’ll be a fool. That’s the best thing a girl can be in this world, a beautiful little fool.”

- The Great Gatsby

I have not done much good, have I?

Yet I furiously instill her hope…

Well I hope that one day she’ll

Meet me and be

Surprised to know that I am a

Fraction of the fool.

She glances in every which way that’s

Brought light to her eyes; the

Pure light; but she may not find the best.

She finds but a poor thing:

An innocent; a

girl.

What good might I do? What can

I do for her? I must be…

I must be the only one to see in

How she flutters those eyes in this

Way that makes the World

Seem but a speck of dust, a

Damn speck… a beautiful—

But my hope serves you little.

Not only am I, but are you, a fool.
