My Firefly

You chased dreams like little kids chase fireflies.

You ran until the light went out.

You kept yourself going until you couldn't anymore.

You taught me to chase my dreams like a hunter chases their prey.

You taught me that I need to be confident, vicious, and independent.

Quick, calculating, and focused.

You were a firefly.

Radiant, fascinating and gone too soon.

You taught me so much in life, but you were still teaching me how to believe in myself.

Because you were so caught up in caring for us that forgot to care for yourself.

You had dreams, but my dreams always included you.

So now, I am left as a walking contradiction.

With the fire in my belly trying to burn me from the inside out and the ice in my veins.

I've lost the end of my life before I could even really begin to live it.

You were the sun in our galaxy and we no longer have light to guide us.

I don't know how to live with your memory, instead of with you.
