My First
I romanticized the idea of love growing up
I wanted The Notebook kind of love
The love that never fails, even if years go by
I got my first girlfriend at 19
I dove so deep into her
Her laugh
Her smile
Everything about her, I wanted to know
The long distance hurt, but I didn't mind
2,000 miles apart and it's her birthday
I acted on love and flew up for the day
Spent 9 hours together then I was back on a plane
I dove so deep into her
Things started breaking
My heart
Our trust
Me
She broke me
I dove so deep into her
When I needed to dive into myself
Love is patience and understanding
Love is relentless and empowering
Love shouldn't make someone lose themselves
Love should stand tall
Black, white, gay, straight
Love is something for us all
I've learned what love really is
Now, I am diving into myself
