My Friend

So close, yet so far away

So much to talk, so little to say.

I want to help but don't know how

All I can say is "our Vow".

Age 10, innocent, carefree.

Life without fears or worries.

Promises made on the swing set

To rely on each other for help--never forget

Age 16, cynical, worried.

Life with indecisions and actions flurried.

As I see you change before my eyes,

Parties and powders to be inhaled-I cry.

You morph and I can't keep up, but never forget

I will always be there if you need

A shoulder to cry on or a friend-

Our Vow.
