My Future in This Complex World
As I stand in my home, N.Y. reciting my speech
An abundance of knowledge, so I have a lot to teach
MLK was my first black president and he will never be impeached
He spoke in images, visible speech.
On the flight of integrity, I want to fly first class.
I want to be the light that makes our future brighter than our past.
I don’t mind not winning; I just don’t want to finish last.
I want to be the director as poetry plays as my cast.
The stitches of mankind, I want to be part of the sewing process
I refuse to move slowly, I wish I can impact the world the fastest.
I will walk with broad shoulders but continue to be humble
I want to hold the ball of success to see if I won’t fumble.
My words take action like the Montgomery bus boycott
But with less confusion than a story with no plot
MLK led as example, I plan to lead next.
Fundamentals of life, I shall represent in every aspect.
Martin Luther King reminds me to walk with a mental invincibility
So when shots are fired towards me, they repel off of me
The world is a pod and we happen to be, two similar peas.
He said, we must use time creatively
I must agree,
I will use every second to create perfection, honestly.
For I know for every second, there’s a second I might not see.
My mind holds information like a newspaper, daily news.
Dr. King’s dream resulted in victory, so I could never lose.
I’m following my own path; I’m just using his clues
Because he took huge step towards success, I have to fill big shoes.
I knock on society’s door; I have arrived with the initiation of a poet
I hold the whistle of life and I intend to blow it.
