To My Future Daughter

I want to dedicate this to my future daughter. Dear future daughter I want you to know that mommy loves you no matter what.  You are a gift given to me and your father from God . You are my happiness. Therefore I will always cherish you. We have not met yet, but there are a few things I would like to tell you. I’ll start by telling you that you will never go a day without love; I will love you endlessly for the rest of your life. That is something you will never have to worry about. My mother wasn’t around, she missed games, dances, graduation and prom, so I promise I will not follow in her footsteps. I will always be there for you, I will be in the stands cheering you on at your first soccer game, I will be there when you have your first heart break, I will be at every award ceremony that you have I will be at graduations and dances.  But there is something I want you to do. I want you to love yourself. There is a lot more to it than just saying it, you have to mean it. The first step is becoming comfortable with who you are, and what you look like and have in your head a picture of the ideal woman you want to be someday. It is better to be admired for your mind than your body. Don’t let these foolish boys tell you anything, for they only want one thing from you. If anything give him your mind let him fall in love with your mind and personality. Don’t say your favorite color is blue to impress a boy, and do not be ashamed of loving sports or loving girls. One day you will meet a boy or maybe a girl who makes your heart skip a beat You will feel butterflies in your stomach. The second your lips touch it will feel as though fireworks are going off. Whatever you do, don’t allow them to become your moon because they will lighten your life in your darkest hours and then maybe one day they will leave you forever and you will soon know why they name tropical storms after people. You will want to die, and if I’ve learned anything, it’s that everything is temporary. Heart breaks are temporary. Stomach aches are temporary. Everything is temporary. Don’t let this scare you. Don’t be scared to fall in love. I know it’s terrifying, the idea of giving your heart to someone trusting them not to break it, but I want you to believe in love. I don’t mean find it at sixteen when you have your first boyfriend. But Find love in yourself. I want you to know that it is okay to be alone. I want you to sit in silence and feel whole. I want you to know that your worth does not depend on your relationship status, but one day, I want you to look across the table at breakfast at the love of your life and wonder how the world ever made sense before you met. Express how you feel and don’t hold back. Never be afraid to feel, I want you to feel everything. Express your feelings it makes everything so much easier. I want you to be honest and kind as my father would say, but also firm and assertive and stand your ground. Have Self-respect baby girl because this is one of the most important qualities a person can have. And do not be a follower, be your own person. Don’t go with the in crowd, make your own path. most of all be you I want you to know that there are going to be days that you feel as if nothing is going right or nothing is going your way. Days will get better I promise you Baby please don’t forget that you are human and it is okay to feel pain, it means you are alive. Just breathe, baby, just breathe. You must go through struggle to find strength. But I won’t let you go through it alone, I will be there if you need me. I want you to know that no matter what I will always love you. Even after all those “I hate yous” and door slams and even all the “you’re ruining my life” moments, I will love you unconditionally. You’ll grow up to be thick-headed and stubborn like me but you will grow up to be your own person and it will be a pleasure watching you grow. If you fall just know I will be there waiting to catch you with nothing but love in my eyes.

Love mom
