My Future Self
Dear Future Me,
I wonder
Where have I gone by the point
Of you reading this letter
Made in the hope that I would have grown
If only a little bit
From my experiences
I wonder
If you had pursued your dreams
Pushed back expectations
Passed your wildest imaginings
If you have everything you could hope for
I wonder
How the world has changed
And your view of it
If you’ve become more cynical like some people you’ve known
Or started to have a more positive outlook
On what may come
I fear
That the future is worse that I can imagine
Everything I’ve worked towards
All that I’ve dreamed about
Have withered and died
Like a beautiful rose with a short lifespan
I fear
That I’ll be stuck in a limbo
For the rest of my life
Stuck in expectations
Set by myself
My family
And the world around me
I fear
The unknown of my future
Your present
How any minor thing I do
Can easily change what my life
Turns out to be
I dream
Of a time where my thoughts
Won’t be filled with the ‘what if’s of your time
And focus on the now
And strive
To be better
I know,
Future Me,
I know now
That my dreams
And fears
And wondering
Only push me to one point:
To me reading this letter
Every step I take
Every stumble
Leap, skip, jump
Will put me
Where I’m meant to be
Wherever that is
And my journey
Will lead to me remembering
How in the past,
I wrote this
In desperation
Hoping that my future would fulfill
All of my own expectations
To you, I say this:
I am proud of who you’ve become
From,
Your Past Self
