My Gateway

I want to be a programmer

A master worker of code

A manipulator of technology

The conductor in a symphony of science

I want to shape the future with my mind, my innovation, and my passion

Breathing life into the unconscious body that is my idea

Using memories of those who wish me to fail; I inject myself and embrace the high it gives me

I refuse to come down as I remember the identity that was once forced upon me

The names “Geek”, “Nerd”, and “Dork” were all I knew, but with the power this drug of knowledge lends me these personalities take a new shape

I am now a “Visionary”, an “Idealist”, or a “Radical”

But this is only the beginning

The potential of “what could be” elates my sprit

My budding creations soar through the cosmos of my mind, taking root where they desire and waiting for their time to be cultivated

While the gravity of “what needs to be done to have this privilege” brings me back to earth

This title must be earned and fought for

It can be attained only after a concentrated effort towards taming the power this expertise carries is put forth

I metamorphose into a nocturnal being as my nights become filled with poring over material rather than sleep

My body becomes worn from the strain of working two jobs and bearing the load of mastering my craft

Now is the time to create a credo for myself.  A battle cry to remind my soul what it is that it’s fighting for

No matter the challenges I must shoulder or the insurmountable odds I face

I want to be a programmer

And my fingers are my gateway to change the world
