My Generation:
In the dead of night
I hear screams
Loud,deafening screams
Of children
Children of my generation
Who are dying
Mentally and Physically
Doing any and everything
Just to prove a point
Skipping class just to smoke a joint
Spending hard earned money on material things
Just to be a part of societies dream
Not taking the time
To use their own minds
Killing and disrespecting their own kind
Beefing over dumb things
Dropping out of school
With no plans or dreams
Disrespecting woman
As if it is nothing
Girls getting pregnant at thirteen
Girls willing to lay on their backs for anything
Men hitting women as if it is funny
Disrespecting their mother’s
As if it is the “new thing”
Never taking Responsibility
Always blaming their enemies
Black men in and out of jail
Always feeling like they are catching hell
Ten-fifteen years of age
Trapping themselves inside of a cage
No visits, calls, or letters
With no bail bond
Their sentence will not be as light as a feather
Mother’s crying
Because their sons are not home
Young daughters in tears
Because they know their father will be fine for years
People using social media
Just to be seen
People using curse words
As if it is a new way to speak
Disrespecting elders
Forgetting if it was not for them
Where Would we be?
Our generation is in a downward spiral
Yet they walk a tight rope
With their eyes closed
Wanting to be fearless
To show-off and boast
They are headed down a road
Where no one wants to go
Wanting to have “swag”
Rather than be intelligent
Rather drink,smoke,and party
Just for the he’ll of it
Never thinking of a consequences
Just to stay revelent
Doing whatever just to fit in
Most been acting out
Ever since they were ten
Wanting to be thugs
Out following their big homies
Selling drugs
Getting locked up
And wondering why his mother don’t love them no more
Pulling out guns instead of being men
Willing to lose their life
Because, they weren’t using their heads
People standing up for hoods
Being put six feet under for good
Having their mother’s and father’s in tears
Cause their baby boy only reached seventeen to eighteen years
Now let’s switch gears
And talk about how women forget their worth
And how they don’t care that they are being hurt
Stripping themselves of their dignity
Allowing boys to penetrate their virginity
Allowing statistics to become the enemy
Doing things just to be known
Having no pride
Caring too much of how they look
Some are so filled of themselves
They won’t even pick up a book
Time is ticking for my generation to learn
If they don’t shape up
Growth up
They will get burned
