My Generation

Dear My Generation,

We are so lost. We live in an era where we believe that  capturing moments on our phones and doing something for "likes" or "retweets" is more important that actually living in those moments with whoever is beside and enjoying the moment to the fullest because it will never come again. I hate that our generation feels the need to share everything with the internet first before connecting with another person. We live in a generation that are professionals in letting connections fade away. We think people are replaceable because of social media and cell phones. We don't realize that you cannot replace the energy of genuine and caring person who always puts in effort to be a part of your life. We live in a generation of hook-ups, "hanging out", and "Netflix and Chill" instead of dating. We live in a generation where people are scared of titles and commitments; where you are "talking" to a person longer than you are in an actual relationship with them. This generation plays with people's time and heart way too much. People aren't trying to fall in love or create lasting friendships and relationships. This generation just wants to text, not commit, catch feelings, ignore each other, and complain that nobody loves them. In this generation, courting is practically inexistent. We aren't ready for a relationship but we expect relationship benefits. I personally believe that "friends with benefits" rarely works because the feelings are never mutual. It leads to the "what are we?" conversation, and the "I am not ready for anything serious and what we have now is so good why do we have to ruin it" answer In our generation most men aren't men anymore in the sense that they are incapable of making their woman feel secure and safe within their relationship and that's the real problem in this day and age.  Heartbreak is all this generation knows. And loyalty, is a thing of the past. Cheating has become so common in our era that when someone finally treats us right and is loyal its considered "goals".  Loyalty should expected. It shouldn't be grey. It's black and white. You're either loyal completely or not at all. You cannot be loyal only when it benefits you. Everything is a game within this generation. Calculating the time at which it is reasonable to respond to someone, having long snap streaks, subtweeting each other, and having a perfect trouble-free life.  I hate how social media leads us to believe we must have a perfect life with it all together at the age of only 16. I believe everything happens according to our time, and what may be perfect for us may not be for others and we need to learn/accept that. We can't compare our lives to others because they are living according to the pace of their clock. We need to be patient- we're not falling behind or ahead, it's just not our time.
