My Gratitude For You

She was born when her parents were still considered children

The age where they were supposed to be thinking about their future

They had just finished high school

then put their lives on hold to make sure that their daughter had a better life than theirs had ever been

They were judged for having a child at such a young age

although it wasn’t their intention

It came as a surprise to them,

and yet they took full responsibility

they gave up so many things for her

Worked so many hours to pay for everything that the three of them needed
They tried so hard to be good parents and they were

So why were they judged?
They gave up partying with their friends,

And traded Wild and restless nights for quiet and calm ones

Everyone used to say

No way that they’re going to last

And unfortunately, they got that right

Even through all the arguments and yelling,

the daughter was and still is strong

Because she was raised that way

She recently realized how lucky that she is

Not many kids have the life that she has

But she has everything she needs

Because of her young parents

Young parents that raised their daughter the best they could

Young parents that sacrificed so many things for her life to be the way it should

Young parents that amazingly had such a supportive family

Young parents that actually cared

and I am the daughter

I am the daughter of the man and the woman who had me while they were 17 and 18 years old

I am the daughter that they took care of even when they couldn’t take care of themselves

I am the daughter, and I’ll say it a million times if I have to

Because I am proud to be born from two amazing people, and I know that they are proud of me
