To My Great Grandmother

I know it’s been a while, this letter is overdue.

Everyday I pretend that you aren’t gone.

I’m pretending that I will mail this to you,

rather than reading it to myself and hoping that you will hear me.

 

You taught me things only a grandmother could teach.

I learned from you that life is short; to not waste a minute,

to be grateful for what you have,

and that love and family are more valuable than any diamond.

 

I miss you dearly.

You have influenced my life in ways that no one could.

I live this life for you,

to do all the things you knew I could accomplish.

 

I will get a higher education.

I will love unconditionally.

I will be the person that you taught me to be.

I will not let anything hold me back, just like you never did.

never a goodbye.
