MY GREAT WALL OF CHINA
i grew up learning not to cry
to keep my truth and feelings dry
a quiet mask, a steady face
no tender hand, no soft embrace
i built up walls to guard my chest
convinced that silence served me best
i flinch at warmth, confusing fear
so i keep my distance, never near
so now i stand, to scared to show
the softer side i'll never know
i grew up strong, or so it may seem
but strength can't quiet the heart that scream

Restrained, introspective voice with building emotional intensity toward conclusion.
