My Guardian Angel

My Guardian Angel

(A poem to my aunt)

Where am I from?

This question seems so unrealistic to answer.

How could I sum up where I am from when my life has been nothing

but change and pain?

It’s hard to explain where you are from when you grow-up parentless.

I am not from my mother

Nor from my father.

I am from a broken childhood.

A childhood filled with fear, constant moving, and a yearning for love.

I am from an 18 year old saviour.

My aunt.

My guardian angel in disguise.

I am from this guardian angel trying to solve me.

I am from an 18 year old young woman taking responsibility of me.

I am from learning what love really was,

And learning I am capable of being loved.

I am from special trips to Navy Pier to courthouse visits throughout the 5th grade.

Not knowing whom I  belonged to,

but knowing where I belong.

Where am I from?

I am from many places.

From a broken childhood,

To becoming the person I am today,

Thanks to the guardian angel who chose to look over me.

I am proud to say you are my guardian angel.

I love you so much.

Thank you for all that you have done <3
